On today's episode of the Iron Saints Podcast, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Luke. We continue to walk through the Parables of Christ in Luke 5:17 and examine what practical meaning they have for us as men of Christ.

Jesus Heals a Paralytic
17 On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal. 18 And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, 19 but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. 20 And when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 22 When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” 25 And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God. 26 And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Welcome back to the Iron Saints podcast with your host, Dan Willis. 1s Welcome back, Saints. It is good to be back after a hiatus. Looking forward to continuing the walk into Luke. If you guys have missed the past episodes, we are going to continue walking through Luke. We had last talks. Luke, chapter five. We are going repairables right now. So I'm going to knock out parable after repairable. Huge. Thank you to all you folks who have been listening, who have been sharing this out in your church and your men's groups and wherever, really loving that. I am going to continue moving forward into Luke. We're going to look to finish Luke and then who knows, we'll go from there. But if you guys have any suggestions as to what you would like us to continue moving forward with on the devotional, please take that time to do. Leave it in the comments on every episode. I do read through all the comments, so if you would like a book or a topic or a theme, throw them in there and I'll throw it into a file for consideration when we get through Luke here. But without further ado, let's get down to it. Luke 517, here we go. 6s On one of those days, as he was teaching, pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem, and the power of the Lord was with him to heal. And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed. And they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus. But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles in the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said, man, your sins are forgiven you. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? Jesus perceived their thoughts. He answered them. Why do you question your hearts? Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Rise and walk, but that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins? He said to the man who was paralyzed, I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home. And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home. Glorifying God. An amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, we have seen extraordinary things today. 3s The extraordinary, that measure that goes above all understanding, all comprehension. The extraordinary. It's something that we almost take for granted in the world that we have around us today. We see so many amazing things that just change everything that we know. AI and going to the moon and satellites and massive weapons of destruction and crazy cures to diseases that we never thought we would have the cures to. And we see so many things in our day that would have seemed extraordinary back then. And yet, even now, Christ blows minds. He has this ability to be in situations where people 1s come to him. They fight hard to come to him. They ignore all of those who would draw them away and say, there's nothing in Christ for you. What does he bring? What does he give? What does he offer? What does he have? Is he really extraordinary even now? And the answer for those that have ever been either the man on the mat in this story or the friends that have brought a man on a mat to Christ. 1s You can speak probably pretty clearly to how massive the power and authority of Christ is to forgive sins. I'm not talking about the man getting up and walking. That's not for me. What's extraordinary in this story what's extraordinary in this story is that here is a man who is standing in front of a group of people that have heard him preach, they've heard him teach, they've seen him do wonders, and he literally just comes out and says, Your sins forgiven, and jaws hit the floor. Who in history has had the right to say, your sins are forgiven? No one. Not the priest, not the Levites, not Aaron, not the patriarchs, not the prophets, no one. No one has had this authority. Jesus steps up here and does something that rocks worlds. It's extraordinary. And that ability for this man to not only move through his sin, but to stand up and walk afterwards is just a perfect portrayal from Christ of where we have our priorities mixed up. So often we look for the extraordinary and we're looking at worldly things, and Christ is saying, here the worldly things are the easier part of this. It's the easier part. Your soul is the hard part, and I'm the only one that can fix it. I'm the only one that can take it from being something that's broken and torn apart and torn down. And I think so often when we're looking for the extraordinary, we don't appreciate how extraordinary that sacrifice from Christ really, really is. That his ability to die on the cross for us and give us that sinless nature. 2s No merit of our own, no action of our own. But our souls are saved and redeemed through Christ saying, your sins are no more. We get so distracted with the world around us, the hardships of finance, our health, our family, our friends, or whatever it may be. There are tons of worldly things that come into our minds and would hold us down, that keep us lame. They make us that man on the mat. And Christ is saying, focus first on the things of God. Focus first on your soul. So I challenge you today, brothers, anybody who's listening to this, take that time today, take that time in prayer as you're driving on your commute, as you're talking, as you're doing your own devotion, whatever it may be. Guys, take that time today and dial in. Really focus on what is that first priority. Are you appreciating that extraordinary nature of Christ in your life and that he's forgiven those sins, opening you up, giving you that freedom to face the world in a new light, in a new you? And then let's deal with all that other stuff afterwards. But realize the extraordinary in Christ is that he did something that no one else could, and he did it for you without asking. He did it for you freely. He did it at the greatest cost he could possibly give, and he'd do it again. 2s It has been a while, guys, since I've been posting and since I've been giving requests for prayer. So if you do have prayer requests, please feel free to comment wherever you're listening to this. I do pull those prayer requests for the end of these episodes, but let's pray right now and get you guys heading off to your day. Lord, thank you so much. All that you do for us first and foremost, that death that you gave on the cross us to save us, we are not worthy of it. We are all sinners, we all fall short, and yet Christ soft fit to love us first. Pray for those, Lord, that have worldly things that are on them, that are weighing on them. Death, illness, finances, whatever it may be. Lord, I pray that you would come to their hearts today, that you would work on their soul first. Help them to see you. Help them to recognize how extraordinary you loving them is, first and foremost. And then, Lord, I do pray that you help them to take up their mat and walk, help them with their worldly issues. But once they've got you fixed in their heart, in Your name, we pray. Have an amazing day, saints. I will be back to doing this daily, Monday through Friday. 1s If you could share it out, always appreciate it. Have an amazing day. Blessings on you. Thank you for listening to the Iron Saints podcast. If you are looking to share your prayer requests, check the description for social media or email to contact the show. Blessings on you all. Until next time.
